A Journey To The Cross

Station 7: THE LAST SUPPER

Pause to remember your nametag- you are chosen and included by Jesus. Imagine now that He is inviting you to join Him and His disciples at the last supper. There is a seat just for YOU. Jesus washes your feet and serves you. He breaks bread with you and calls you His friend.

Read Matthew 26:17-26 Just as Jesus broke bread for His disciples, pause reading now to break a piece of bread off of a loaf. (We also have gluten free bread labeled, as well as crackers if you prefer those.) As you eat the bread, consider that Jesus is about to give up his life and body as a sacrifice for all. Feel the weight of that moment and His loving sacrifice.

Then read Matthew 26:26-30. Imagine that Jesus hands you a cup along with the rest of His disciples. Take a cup of juice, and as you drink, imagine the bittersweetness of this moment. You are enjoying time with friends, but there's something painful about this moment as well.

Jesus invites you to the table. But he also alludes to his death and you and the disciples do not fully understand what it is that He has to do.

Scripture Reading

Bonus For Kids

Have you ever taken communion before? The reason we celebrate communion today started as a Jewish celebration called Passover, where all the Israelites remembered how God brought them out of slavery in Egypt. At this station, you are imagining that you are celebrating the Passover with Jesus and His friends- and He wants YOU to have a special seat at the table. His friends did not understand yet that Jesus was getting ready to go to the cross to die for our sins.

Imagine that Jesus gives you a piece of bread (you can rip a piece off!) and gives you a cup of juice to drink. As you eat the bread and drink the juice, think about the fact that Jesus loved you so much that He was ready to die on the cross for you. How does that make you feel? Draw a picture or write down your thoughts and don't forget to take a sticker for your book!
